RACHA Saving for Change Project (Cambodia and Myanmar) RACHA has undertaken poverty alleviation and women empowerment projects since 2008. The Saving for Change (SfC) project was a ground-breaking community-based intervention to address gender and feminized poverty through empowering women and girls; and to improve maternal, newborn, and child health and nutrition through improved social networking and mutual economic support of more disadvantaged people, specifically increasing women’s ability to generate economic wealth and improve family health thus enabling communities and families on their journey to self-reliance. In 2016, RACHA extended this project to Myanmar. The project has set up a feasible system whereby community-based organizations will not only work with, but also provide mentoring to communities that need additional competence, economic, and social support. Families will be empowered to take care of their own health through building family competencies; strengthening families’ ability to generate economic wealth through a network of mutual social support; increasing their capacity to address health-related problems and coming up with viable solutions to cope with both physical and economic stressors.
