This program focuses on developing and augmenting the skill sets of doctors and midwives in referral hospitals (hospitals treating patients who have been sent to them by other health facilities). Within the hospitals, RACHA works to improve the health facilities that are specifically prepared to provide Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care and to upgrade the quality of the maternity and delivery wards. Furthermore, RACHA supports the construction and renovation of waiting rooms and post-delivery rooms, and supplies facilities with furniture, clean water, and medical equipment that are necessary for maternal and newborn care. The program includes an emergency transportation system, which covers transportation fees for obstetric emergencies. Postnatal coverage is also addressed by increasing routine home visits to newborns and their mothers in RACHA's most rural target areas.
